Management of Menopause Type® Seminar

Module B: Subjective Data

The Menopause Type® Questionnaire

The MTQ is used to determine Menopause Type® based on subjective symptoms of menopause. There are 50 numbered questions. Within each numbered question there may be one or more questions.

For example, a few questions contain a single query:

"Are your hands or feet colder?"

Many questions contain more than one query:

"Are you more irritable? Do you have more nervous tension?"

The patient is instructed to answer yes if she experiences any part of the question. Once the questions are analyzed, the menopause type based on subjective symptoms is determined.

The Design of the Menopause Type® Questionnaire

This Questionnaire is designed to facilitate the collection and analysis of subjective data.

The 50 numbered questions are divided into 8 different sections, designated Section A through G.

Each of these sections asks about symptoms associated with one or more hormone imbalance.

The Sections of the MTQ

Estrogen deficiency symptoms are inside sections A, D, E & F, while progesterone deficiency symptoms are in B, D & E. The testosterone deficiency symptoms are in sections C & D & F, while androgen excess symptoms are in section G.

Sections are analyzed to determine Menopause Type® based on the  percentage of symptoms in five categories.

These five categories are:

Estrogen Deficit Score

Progesterone Deficit Score

Dual Deficit Score

Testosterone Deficit Score

Androgen Excess Score

A percent score of 50% or more will result in choosing a specific symptom category.

Symptom categories are further analyzed using the Interpretation of Menopause Type® Questionnaire worksheet (Next Slide) to report a specific Menopause Type®

What's Next?

We will now present the Interpretation of Menopause Type® Questionnaire worksheet. Then, we will review a case using the Menopause Type® Questionnaire in a clinical setting.
