Managing Your Menopause Type® Educational Class

Session One - Redefining Menopause

Managing Your Menopause Type®

Up to this point we have redefined menopause as a transition that may show up in many different ways, and presented 12 different menopause types®. Understanding your menopause type® will help you make proper treatment choices for managing your menopause type®. The choices you make must be appropriate for you, based on your menopause type®. These choices do not just include hormone choices. In fact, there are a number of different groups of choices that you have available.

The different groups of choices available to you include:

1. Lifestyle Choices

2. Nutritional Choices

3. Herbal Choices & Homeopathy Choices

4. Glandular Supplement Choices

5. Hormone Precursor Choices

6. Natural Hormone Replacement Choices

As you can see, that's a lot of choices. So the big question is "How do I know what to choose?" Another question, which is quite similar to the first one, is "How do I know when to choose?" In essence, the real question is 'How do I manage my menopause type®?"

To fully understand the answer to that question, you will have to know how doctors make decisions about which therapy to choose, and when to choose it.

It is very common for a physician to go through a number of steps before actually deciding on what therapy to choose, and when to choose it.

The first step involves collecting information about you symptoms and how you feel. This type of information is called "Subjective Data". Subjective data says a lot about your quality of life.

The next step is collecting information from physical exams, lab tests, bone density tests and other tests. This type of information is called "Objective Data". Objective data says a lot about your risks of disease.

Next, the doctor will have to evaluate your subjective and your objective data together. Since this step involves assessing the data it is called "Assessment". Assessment helps the doctor understand your unique needs.

The next step is developing an individualized treatment plan for you. As you would expect, this step is called "Plan". The plan will be unique, a plan just for you.

Up to this point it's all been gathering, interpreting and planning. The next step is to put your plan into action, to actually implement the plan designed for you. This step is aptly called "Implement". Implementing the plan is the first step to keeping your plan alive.

It's very important to make sure that your plan is working the way that you want it to. So the next step is to evaluate how well you respond to the plan. This step is called "Evaluate". Evaluating your response is vital to keeping your plan alive.

After gathering enough information to determine how well you respond to the treatment plan, your doctor will actually reassess the entire process. This step is called "Reassess". Reassessing the entire process regularly allows ongoing success for keeping your plan alive.

These steps are remembered by using the acronym "SOAPIER".

The seven steps, and the Session that they are presented in, are as follows:
