Seven Principles of Successful Salivary Hormone Testing

What You May Not Have Been Told About Salivary Hormone Testing

Salivary hormone testing provides a non-invasive means of assessing hormone levels. While once considered unconventional by clinicians, saliva testing is now gaining more wide-spread acceptance

The good news is that we have enough experience and research to know how to properly test for hormones. This page will discuss the seven principles of successful saliva testing

Seven Principles of Successful Salivary Hormone Testing

Multiple Sample

Assessment

Multiple samples provide more reliable information about hormone function, allowing the advantage of making decisions on more then one sample.

Treat the Woman,

Not Just Lab Tests

Symptoms that a woman is experiencing would affect how the test is interpreted, since these symptoms suggest other factors are influencing how her body uses the hormones.

More on this topic (MYMT, Session 2, Slides 5 & 6).

Look for Patterns

& Fluctuations

Hormone level fluctuations and erratic patterns reveal much about hormone function. Fluctuation & pattern analysis are advantages of multiple samples.

Review

Medications

Consider how Medications or other substances will influence hormone test interpretations.

Observe Body

Composition

Body mass index and waist hip ratio will significantly influence how the test should be interpreted.

Evaluate

Interrelationships

Hormones affect each other. The relationship is clearly defined by the Menopause Type®, as well as the ratio between hormones, such as the P:E ratio.

Look Beyond

Reference Ranges

By dividing the reference range into fourths, we have four quartiles, which provide us with the ability to easily recognize “borderline low” or “sub-clinical” interpretation of hormone tests.

Summary

When ever possible, choose the more accurate multiple sample assessment, with proper P:E ratio analysis. When possible, review symptoms, medications, BMI and other factors that influence test analysis. Observe hormonal patterns, realizing no hormone act independent of other hormones – or any other factor.

The next step in the advancement of testing is the use of wellness reports, which are multivariate (have a number of variables) and go beyond interpreting just the lab data. They are true wellness reports.

We continue to have many requests from healthcare professionals and patients for a Salivary Hormone Test that is approved and supported by YourMenopauseType.com, Inc. such as our own personal Menopause Type® Wellness Report.
